Helmet Diving in Boracay: What to Expect

One of the more popular activities to do in Boracay is Helmet Diving. For local tourists, this activity costs P500 per person, inclusive of 1 cd with pictures and videos.  For foreigners, this could go up as high as P2,500 each.  These prices were in May 2016, and they can go up or down depending on the season.

This activity is best done in the morning when the water is not yet murky. So, the process:

1) You will ride a speedboat to the diving platform.
2) In the platform,  they will give a short orientation on how the guide will use hand signals,
3) then you will climb down a ladder.
4) Once the water is shoulder level, they will put on you the helmet (weighing 20 kilos above water and 2 kilos in the water) and then you continue going down.
5) You can breath normally inside the helmet as if you are above water.
6) There will be an-ear popping because of the compression, but this is normal. You can just chew (as if you have a gum).
7) Then you get to walk around, feed the fish, pose for pictures and goof around.
8) Just always remember to breathe, stay calm and enjoy yourself!

This will only take 10-15 minutes but that is more than enough!

This activity is not recommended for those with high blood pressure or heart conditions, for safety reasons.  My daughter panicked and she wouldn't try it. so only 3 of us did the activity.

Would I do it again? Yes, but maybe not with my kids, hahaha. My middle child was too afraid to relax, and we stayed for less than 10 minutes. He was just trying to be brave and I was watching out for him hoping he won't freak out. Thankfully, he did not.
