Mt. Gulugod-Baboy: A Hot Summer Sojourn

at the summit of Mt. Gulugod-Baboy
Since April 9 was a holiday and our last hike was in February, my friends Ehms and Teng and I decided to take a day hike at Mt. Gulugod Baboy in Anilao, Batangas. We met at Jam Line bus station in Cubao at 4am, and we were at Grand Terminal in Batangas by 7am. Then we rode a jeepney to Mabini, and alighted at Anilao where we took a tricycle to Philpan Dive Resort.  We started the hike at 855am.

The saying that no mountain is ever an easy climb is so true! With only 500+ MASL, we had a hard time climbing this mountain! Maybe it was the heat, or the lack of practice or warm-up, or our old age, but we were breathing heavily even before we finished walking up the paved road! We took five minutes rest every tow minutes, hahaha! But since we were in no hurry, we just took our sweet time and hiked leisurely. We took a break at one of the rest stops selling sodas and then continued on with the hike.  By the way, you don't need a guide to hike Mt. Gulugod Baboy as the trail is very visible.

We were at the summit by noon and while it was too hot and there was really no protection from the sun, we had a great time taking pictures and making jump shots. It is really true that the view of the summit makes everything worth it! And what do you know, the descent only took us less than an hour, hehehehe.

How to get there:
From Cubao, ride a Batangas bound bus (P165) and alight at the Grand Terminal. Ride a jeepney bound to Mabini(P135). The jeepney terminal is also inside the Grand Terminal. Travel time was less than an hour. We alighted at Anilao and rode a tricycle(P40) to Philpan Diver Resort where we paid P30 for registration. No guide needed.
